"Clouded Peaks at Black Rock" is my new landscape artwork. It measures 12" x 14" and is rendered in gouache on handmade 100% cotton paper in gray. This piece captures the serene beauty of rolling hills in shades of green, speckled with trees. A wooden fence anchors the foreground, drawing the eye upwards to a sky painted in varied grays with a few hints of blue. The rough edges of the painting lend it a rustic charm.
The inspiration for this piece came from a photograph by Brian Kurth, showcasing the dramatic contrast of sky and mountain at Black Rock Mountain Summit—a landscape I cherish. In this artwork, I aim to invoke the contours of those mountainous forms, rolling like heavy seas.
While creating "Clouded Peaks at Black Rock," my focus was on highlighting these natural contours, bringing a dynamic sense of depth and movement to life on the paper.
