Badger's Quest is my newest creation, a 12" x 14" piece crafted with gouache on handmade 100% cotton ivory paper. This artwork captures a serene winter moment: a badger, in monochrome, reaches up towards a branch clustered with red berries in a snowy landscape. The background features softly blended vertical strokes that evoke trees, adding to the calmness of the scene.

The inspiration came from a photograph of a badger in the snow, reaching for berries. Badgers are often seen as fierce creatures, and this painting highlights their determination and versatility in a tender moment. The bright red berries contrast sharply with the badger’s monochrome, illustrating the balance of nature.

Creating this work, I focused on translating the scene’s subtle nuances and calm atmosphere onto paper. Each brushstroke aims to capture the stillness and resolve of the badger amidst the snow, emphasizing a moment of quiet beauty in the natural world.
