"Rugged Tranquility - Cosmic Waves" is an exploration of color, texture, and the duality of ruggedness and serenity in a coastal landscape. This piece, measuring 11" x 14", is painted on birch panel using gouache. It depicts an inlet flowing through a striking terrain, with blue waters bordered by earthy greens and browns portraying rocky shores and elevations.

The landscape is framed by tall trees, their green leaves a contrast to the swirling cosmic portrayal overhead. The sky, filled with dynamic motion, represents the Milky Way infused with warm oranges and cool purples. Bold brushstrokes bring life and energy, layering texture and movement throughout the scene.

Inspired by a photograph taken by Thomas Mabary, I was drawn to the Pacific Northwest coastal view, its haunting solitude and raw, mysterious beauty. My interpretation speaks to the rugged essence of nature—a theme deeply resonant with the landscape’s inherent solitude.
