Abstract Dreams of Smoky Blue Ridge Horizons is a compact 11" x 14" gouache painting. Here, I embraced abstraction to explore the allure of the Smoky Mountains through a Fauvist lens.

The artwork is a dance of color, with bold, swirling layers that vividly capture movement and energy. Warm oranges, reds, and yellows dominate the top before cooling into greens and blues in the middle, and finally deep blues and purples at the bottom. It’s a vibrant journey from warmth to cool tranquility.

Inspired by the smoky grandeur of the Blue Ridge and the vibrant colors of Fauvism, I aimed to interpret the mountains in a novel way. The use of dynamic brushstrokes and a rich palette is a celebration of color, creating a landscape that feels alive.

Creating this piece was about diving deep into abstraction—allowing colors and strokes to flow freely, each layer building upon the previous, yet maintaining a distinct identity. This artwork stands out with its expressive colors and movement, inviting viewers to experience the Blue Ridge as a vivid, ever-changing horizon.
