In this artwork, a tranquil body of water occupies the foreground, its gentle ripples subtly marked by delicate brushstrokes. Earthy tones portray the tall grasses or reeds, framing the water's edge. Inspired by multiple visits to the subject of mountains in general and Denali specifically—captured first in an Art Sketchbook Journal and now revisited in this painting—I sought to convey the rugged beauty of this landscape. This version is the most raw, an interpretation that captures the powerful essence of the National Park with a focus on the cohesive strength of watercolor and gouache.
